# Banner letter printer

Type your message and print one pennant per letter, each one filling a whole page. String them up for birthdays, showers, graduations and shop windows.

## Making the banner

Each character becomes its own pennant, printed as large as the page allows: about 7.7 in (19.6 cm) wide on US Letter and 7.5 in (19 cm) on A4. Spaces become blank pennants, or nothing at all if you would rather hang each word on its own string. Digits and punctuation work too, and characters outside the Latin alphabet print in your device's fallback font. Patterns sit behind the letters, so keep the paper-coloured circle switched on with busy patterns; the ink saver keeps only the outline and pattern, which is kinder to colour cartridges.

## Cutting and hanging

1. Print at 100% scale. Card stock or heavier paper hangs flatter and lasts longer than copier paper.
2. Cut along the solid outline of each pennant.
3. With the tab, fold the top strip back along the dotted line, lay ribbon or twine in the fold and glue or tape it shut. With holes, punch the two marks and thread the string through from the back.
4. Leave a finger's width or two between pennants, so the line under the preview counts a 1 in gap when it estimates the length.

## Questions

**How long will my banner be?**

Roughly the number of pennants times their width plus the gaps. The summary under the preview works it out for your text and paper, assuming 1 in (2.5 cm) between pennants.

**Can I print two letters per page to save paper?**

Not at the moment: each letter is sized to fill one page, which keeps it readable across a room. Try the ink saver if colour use is the worry.

**Why does a letter look smaller than the others?**

Wide letters such as M and W are scaled down so they stay inside the shape, and narrow ones such as I keep the common height. Every pennant shares the same letter height otherwise.
